When it comes to Chengdu, beyond giant pandas and hot pot, we must also mention our local intangible cultural heritage—Sichuan Opera. Recently, the cast of Zhejiang TV's hit variety show “Eat Across Ten Thousand Miles 2”—Bo Yuan, Chen Huan, Sheng Yilun, Tang Jiuzhou, Wu Jiacheng, and Wu Yi—visited the “Kingdom of Hibiscus” to watch a Sichuan Opera performance and participate in hands-on experiences during the recording of the first episode. Through learning fire-breathing, acrobatic kicking, and tea ceremony skills, the six guests gained a deeper appreciation for Sichuan opera culture, gaining insight into the dedication and perseverance behind the scenes of these theatrical performers.

As early as 2006, Sichuan Opera was listed in the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Register due to challenges such as a lack of new playwriting and a scarcity of renowned performers. Yet, the essence of the Land of Plum Blossoms resolutely chose to remain dedicated to the art form, striving to deliver the finest performances possible. This commitment aims to inspire greater public awareness, appreciation, and preservation of Sichuan Opera.

During the two-hour extreme challenge training session, the Shiwang Brothers' journey—from initial novelty and curiosity to confusion and helplessness during hands-on practice—fully embodied the adage: “One minute on stage, ten years of practice behind the scenes.”

Whether it's the tea ceremony that leaves hands aching after just a few minutes of practice, the drum-beating technique requiring three years to master even its most basic movements, or the highly dangerous fire-breathing act, the sweat and perseverance behind these performers deserve our utmost respect.

Of course, at the final showcase performance, the Shiwan Brothers troupe overcame the challenges and delivered their act. Achieving such a level of completion within just two hours of practice was no small feat. Their courageous spirit in taking on this challenge to promote intangible cultural heritage is truly admirable.
