Face-Changing Master: He Hongqing


National First-Class Performer

He performs face-changing using the martial-hero physique embodying “masculine beauty,” honing his craft through relentless practice to pioneer the “Triple-Speed Face-Changing” technique.

He has performed at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2004, 2005, and 2007.

He has performed abroad on multiple occasions for international audiences, enhancing the reputation of Sichuan opera face-changing techniques and expanding the art form's global recognition, earning widespread acclaim from viewers.

1984–1986: Mianyang Region “Outstanding Young Actor”

1986: Second Prize, Provincial Competition for Middle-aged and Young Actors

1998: First Prize, Sichuan Provincial Performance Competition for Middle-aged and Young Artists

Master Puppeteer: Wu Wenhui


National First-Class Performer, inheritor of Chengdu Puppetry.

Trained under master puppeteers Liang Kaitong, Li Zhengfa, and Zeng Fanjin. She embodies the distinctive artistry of Chengdu puppetry, delivering nuanced performances that integrate Sichuan opera techniques to vividly portray diverse characters.


Notable lead roles include:

Chang'e Flying to the Moon, The Demon-Subduing Affinity, The Monkey-Taming Boy, The Flame Mountain, Shenxiang Rescues His Mother, Red Earth, Blue Earth, The Mystery of the Three Stars and Golden Sand, Viewing the Scenery from the Cave, Face-Changing and Fire-Breathing, Long Silk Dance, etc.


She has received numerous awards, including the National Performance Gold Award and the Special Contribution Award. She has toured Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, and six African countries, earning acclaim and affection. She has mentored many apprentices, several of whom now play leading roles in various productions.




Master Puppeteer: Luo Xingkang


Chengdu Puppetry Heritage Bearer. Trained under master puppeteer Li Zhengfa.


Pioneered three-dimensional facial masks as an innovation to traditional flat masks; created “Panda Face-Changing” (performed on CCTV's 2009 Spring Festival Gala), seamlessly blending traditional puppetry with modern cartoon performance; developed face-changing techniques for cartoon puppets without the obstruction of traditional costumes like hats, robes, or capes.


Representative Works:

Monkey Boy, Nezha, The Mystery of the Three Stars and Golden Sand, Strange Flowers of the Ancient Island, Puppet Face-Changing and Fire-Breathing, etc.


Recipient of numerous awards including First Prize in Performance at the inaugural Chengdu Arts Festival and Second Prize in Performance at the 2004 Sichuan Provincial Competition for Quyi, Acrobatics, Magic, Puppetry, and Shadow Puppetry. Has mentored numerous apprentices.
